How to Be Saved

I’m so glad you have clicked on this page, because it is the most important page on our site.

Sometimes we are asked, “I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?” Well, since we are not face to face, I will answer that question for you. I always like to hear the good news last because it leaves me thinking about those things. In the Bible it is essential that we all hear the bad news first, because without it, you have no need for the good news.

Let me explain by asking a few probing questions.

1) Have you ever told a lie? (and remember, deceit is also lying). What do you call one who lies? A liar, thats right.

2) Have you ever stolen anything, even if it was small, or even as a child? What do you call one who steals? (No, not a stealer!). A thief.

3) Have you ever used God’s name in vain? Well, the Bible calls that blasphemy.

4) Have you ever committed adultery? Your quick answer may be, “Absolutely not!”. But wait! Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matt 5:27-28). Have you ever looked at some one with lust?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, blaspheming, adulterer at heart (and that’s only 4 of the 10 commandments!). So when God judges you by these laws on Judgment Day, would you be innocent or guilty? Right. Guilty.

So, What would the sentence for your law-breaking be? The Bible says Hell. Does that concern you at all? If it does, please read on. If it doesn’t, the good news below may not interest you.

I want to tell you the good news now. It is called the gospel of Jesus Christ; the good news that, though we have all sinned against a holy God Who one day “will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:31), God sent His only Son (the God/man) to provide the righteousness needed in order for us to please God…Christ’s righteousness.

Our “righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6), but Christ’s is perfect. When He died on the cross, was buried & rose from the grave, He satisfied the Judge (God the Father) by paying our fine. He bore our sin & suffered the wrath of God that we deserve to suffer for our sin. And because God was perfectly satisfied with the sacrifice Christ offered on that cross, He then took our unrighteousness & put it to Jesus’ account and took Jesus’ righteousness and put it to our account. This made it possible for us to be reconciled to God. And all who will REPENT & TRUST Jesus to be their Lord and their Savior will have a new eternal relationship with God whereby He can call us His “children”, “sons/daughters”, “friends” and we then (as sons) receive from Him everlasting life. “For whoever calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved. (Rom. 10:13) “Saved” means to be delivered from sin’s power in this life and from the penalty of your sin for all eternity… a lake of fire.

There is no greater news for anyone to hear than this! Will you turn from your sin and put your trust in Christ much like you would a parachute? Just believing in a parachute will not keep you safe from the consequences of your fall…death (and a terrifying one at that!). The law of gravity will guarantee it! But trusting in it enough to pull the cord will take you safely home.

This is the kind of faith that you place in Jesus for salvation. You trust that He is the ONLY way to be saved from your sin. After all, He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Me.” (John 14:6)

We urge you to repent of your sin (turn away from living for yourself and your sin & turn to Christ as the One Who can deliver you from it) and trust Christ that He can truly give you everlasting life!

If, as a result of reading this good news, you have placed your trust in Christ to be your Savior, would you please email me at pastormark@gbcfairborn.com so that I can pray for you and encourage you? That would be such a great email to receive!
